Many GABC members are providentially hindered from attending church services and/or Sunday school because of sickness or sickness of a partner, due to attending school in another city or state, or due to active duty service in a location away from their church home. These are the individuals that we want to reach out to and let them know that GABC has not forgotten them and are here for them if they need a helping hand and a friendly face. We began reaching out to these individuals by acknowledging that they are missed in the church body by sending them a weekly mailing that includes a scripture sheet and an activity sheet. The response to this first act of outreach was tremendous. Take a moment to consider how you might feel if you could no longer attend your favorite Sunday school class or if you could no longer make it to worship services at GABC. What would your life be like without the fellowship you find at Bible studies or at church services and social events? Many of our homebound members had attended church all their lives before the circumstance of their health or the health of a loved one made it difficult or impossible to attend services. Many miss church fellowship profoundly. Let us not forget our homebound members, our young people at college, and our military men and women. Are you willing to help them keep connected with their church family?
There are many different ways to help:
* Volunteer to call a homebound member regularly.
* Volunteer to send encouraging notes.
* Enlist your children to design creative greeting cards.
* Volunteer to visit a homebound member once a month.
* Volunteer to drive those who need a ride to church, the doctor, or to buy groceries.
* Pray. Pray that these men and women understand the value they still hold for this congregation. Pray that they understand how treasured their lives are in God’s eyes. Pray that people will be moved to reach out to our homebound members in meaningful ways.
Our homebound members, too, can help. Here are some ways:
* Pray for volunteers to offer continued spiritual care for homebound members.
* Pray that the church will become aware of members who can no longer come to church but would benefit from continued caring contact.
* Pray for the church, the pastors and the entire congregation.
* Pray for all the ministries and outreach of the church.
* Pray by name for those you are aware of that are ill or bereaved or away on military service.
If you see a way you can help with this ministry or would like the church to be aware of people who might benefit from a visit, a call, or weekly letters, please call the church office at 478-923-1995 or email corinne@greenacresbc.com
